Captain’s Report April 2018
Junior Inter Regional Regatta – Holmepierrepoint. The junior section were selected by the Eastern region to supply two quads to the team. Our girls competed in J15x+ and J16x-. The regatta took place on Saturday 21 April and a dedicated team of parents looked after the girls for the day. Both crews competed in the B Finals for their categories and gained experience of multi lane racing. The Eastern Region came 6th overall from the 12 regions competing. Huge congratulations to the girls and to Lynda who is coaching all the juniors to great success.
The Club followed the girls north to Leicester on the Sunday of that weekend. We had 16 entries on the day but unfortunately we had to scratch a few due to illness. However, there was some success, George Reed triumphed in J16x and our MasC4+ of Martin Fraser, Chris Rodney, Phil Copperwheat and Richard Brewster coxed by Alison Pointing won their final against X-Press Boat Club. A composite Star/BRC coxed4 with Richard White and Cathy Johnson were also victorious in MasE4+.
Two crews were competing this weekend. The first was our renegade quad of Kernius Malys, Adam Dingley, Andy Taylor and Matt Farley who went to Wallingford to race in a very competitive field. Their success was beyond expectation finishing second behind Claire’s Court School A and beating the Star quad (Callow) in their heat. The final was another level and the boys finished 6th behind Westminster School, Star&Arrow, Imperial College, Hinksey Sculling School and Claire’s Court School A. Well done boys.
The second crew was our MasD4+ of Paul Brown, Tim Coles, Kevin Walsh and Mark Fulford coxed by Alex Brown that went to Evesham on Sunday for a 500m dash beating the local Evesham crew by 1 length.
The fleet is currently in pretty good shape. We are waiting until Paul Cousins is a bit less busy before we send the Swift 8 and Dennis Peet away for their respray.
Bedford Regatta is next weekend. We need as much help on the bank as we can muster. If you have any spare time on Saturday please find me or Mark Redman and we can find you a job. The junior section are all enrolled as runners on the day so all parts of the club are doing something on the day.
The junior section is carrying on business as usual. It is now the mad part of their year that involves GCSE’s so the youngsters have a lot on their minds. Having said this there is always a huge number of them on the bank 4 days per week. There is a small number of boats entered into Bedford Regatta so I wish them all good luck for that. It will be a tough day.
We have now started a new learn2row course which is running on both Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. As always any volunteers for coaching are more than welcome. Please contact Lynda or me to organise a session for you to help. The new web site has also brought in a huge number of new enquiries for new courses. As many as 4 enquiries per day are arriving in my inbox
