Captain’s Report August 2018

Events

Peterborough Regatta. The crews at this year’s summer regatta in Peterborough were mainly the junior squad. We had wins on Saturday for George and Dylan in J16.2x, Sara and Nicky in WMasE/F.2x, Ellie and Kathrine in WJ15.2x and Izzy in WJ15.1x. Other good results were in Open 4-, J16.2x, J16.1x, and J13.1x. Sunday saw some good racing again but sadly no wins. Best of the day was for Ewan John and Sammy Moss in J14.2x with a second place.

The next club outing after the Denver Marathon will be the Milton Keynes Regatta

Boats.

The fleet is still in good shape. We are taking care of the boats as I would expect. There are a couple of jobs that need to be looked at by Paul Cousins and when he is able to fit us in the boats will be repaired

Club News

The trolley for boat storage has been filled with the training singles. The smaller (lighter) singles that are use by the juniors have been moved to the junior bay and the rest of the club singles are now shelved in the middle bay. This allows the rack in the fours bay to be rented out to private boats which is a rich source of income to the club.

Club cleanup will be September 15

Junior Rowing

As reported last month the junior section completed a 24 hour Rowathon to raise money for their group. There was also an appeal for donations to the British Liver Trust in memory of John Singfield who sadly died in July. The online donations to the Trust amassed over £800 and the sponsorship of the junior athletes has raised over£900.

WELL DONE EVERYONE WHO TOOK PART, BOTH THE JUNIOR ROWERS AND THE ORGANISERS AND SUPERVISORS.

Explore+

The Learn2Row course has started again. We are running two groups, one Saturday and one Sunday. As always we will need course instructors to make this work. Contact Lynda and Matt Farley to offer your help. When these courses finish we need to be able to offer further supervision in an intermediate group so that the new group of rowers can gain experience and confidence before joining the racing squads or the recreational group. Please talk to us about how we can make this happen
